Jacob Batalon, best known for portraying Ned Leeds in theSpider-Manmovie franchise, has landed a new gig thats sure to leave us thirsty for blood more, and we finally have our first look.

News of Jacob's casting as the star of Syfys upcoming seriesReginald the Vampire, based on Johnny B. Truant'sFat Vampirebooks, first broke inAugust 2021 but it wasn't until July 18, 2022, thatEntertainment Weeklygave us our first glimpse at his character. Jacob will take on the titular role of Reginald Baskin, a regular high-schooler who turns into a vampire and is described as somewhat of an anti-hero. (Not bad for a guy in the chair!)

"It's a very powerful message to see someone like me, an Asian American specifically a Filipino-American be a lead of a series," Jacob toldEWabout his casting.Reginald the Vampiremarks Jacob's first series regular role and he also serves as an executive producer on the show. Joining the Spider-Man star in the cast are Em Haine, Mandela Van Peebles, and Savannah Basley.

"In a world populated by beautiful, fit, and vain vampires, Reginald tumbles into it as an unlikely hero who will navigate every kind of obstacle and discovers he has a few unrecognized powers of his own," the series synopsis reads onIMDb. According to the site, the show will feature ten episodes.

As to what to expect fromReginald the Vampire? Jacob teased plenty of humor and vampire tropes turned on their head. "I love that we truly make sure that we let people know that we're poking fun at those people, that the real story is about Reginald and not vampirism," he toldEW. "It's an uplifting series about how society judges people by the way they look.

The story seems to promise plenty of nuance and plenty of blood, which, in reality, is sugary corn syrup that made Jacob want to throw up, though he admits it was worth it in the end. In the exclusive first look photo provided by EW, Jacob as Reginald can be seen biting a person's wrist, wearing a black hoodie and many a bloodstain dribbling down his chin. No fangs in sight but, rest assured, they are there. "Having fangs made me feel really cool! It felt as if I actually had superpowers," Jacob toldEW.
