The Originals: What Happened to Kol Mikaelson? | CBR – CBR – Comic Book Resources

After meeting his unfortunate end in The Vampire Diaries, Kol Mikaelson had a whole other set of stories in The Originals.

Originally introduced as one of the members of the Mikaelson family in The Vampire Diaries, Kol Mikaelson is one of the original vampires. The Mikaelson family became the world's first vampires after their youngest brother, Henrik, was slaughtered by a pack of werewolves during a full moon. This prompted their mother, hailed as the Original Witch, to take drastic measures. Usingher magic, she and her husband Mikael created a way to turn their remaining children into a new species that would be stronger than the wolves. Kol and his other siblings are then forcibly turned into a vampire by their own father.

Throughout his natural life, Kol struggled with his status in the family, believing that his siblings considered him to be a nuisance. He saw himself as the black sheep and often lashed out violently, earning him a dangerous reputation, and, on occasion, the ire of his siblings. In reality, his bad behavior was a simple cry for attention that morphed into anger after losing his humanity.

Upon initial introduction, Kol isno different than his brothers and sister. A minor antagonist and anti-hero in the fourth and fifth seasons of The Vampire Diaries, hischaracterdidn't last long, dying at the hands of Jeremy Gilbert. His death sent him tothe OtherSide,a Purgatory-like dimension inhabited by the spirits of supernatural beings, where he remained until escaping.

With him exiting The Vampire Diaries, Kol wouldn't reappear until the spin-off series, The Originals.Hisresentment against his family remained upon his resurrection from the Other Side, but he eventually learns tolet go of the past and mends his relationships with Klaus, Elijah and Rebekah.

Throughout The Originals, it's revealed that Kol has a personal connection with witches, particularly with the line of Mary-Alice Claire, and was the only Mikaelson child to have tapped into his witch heritage prior to becoming a vampire. Once he lost his powers, he traveled the world and studied as many forms of witchcraft as he could find. After his journey, he meets Davina Claire, who he immediately bonds with through their mutual love of magic.

They stay together throughout the series, becoming lovers and partners in crime, working through the drama and politics of the French Quarter of New Orleans. Like all the characters in The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, Kol died many times before the series' end but is brought back each and every time. In the end, Kol ends the show still a vampire but finds happiness with Davina. The two marryand havea daughter together, Lucia, created through a spell thatallowedKol to father at least one child against the laws of nature.
