The Vampire Diaries: The 5 Best Outfits In The Show (& The 5 Worst) – Screen Rant

The TV show The Vampire Diaries quickly became one of the most popular vampire TV series of all time. It gave its viewers everything they wanted - a lot of action, love, humor, violence, and spilled blood. And it also featured some pretty memorable outfits.

Even though its heroes often fought for their lives and clothing was the furthest thing on their minds, they still managed to look great. Some of them preferred more elegant outfits, others were into casual clothes, but all of them made it work. At least sometimes, anyway, other times, they missed the mark when it came to clothing. Here are 5 best The Vampire Diaries outfits and 5 worst.

In the first season, Elena enters the competition, Miss Mystic Falls, and Damon dances with her when Stefan goes AWOL. Elena has a lot of other things on her mind so she does her hair and dress in a very short time.

Yet she still manages to look beautiful. The dark blue dress complements her pale skin and dark hair and while its cut is nothing to write poems about, it's still effective and beautiful in its simplicity.

In the midst of yet another vampire crisis, Elena and her brother Jeremy go to a school dance whose theme is the 1970s. Elena once again faces a threat, this time in the form of Klaus, and she wears a purple patterned mini dress combined with white knee-high boots.

Elena can pull off a lot of outfits but she clearly doesn't feel too comfortable in this one and the final impression leaves a lot to be desired.

Even the fashion queen of The Vampire Diaries, Caroline Forbes, sometimes makes a bad outfit choice - but this isn't one of them. When Elena steals Caroline's previously chosen outfit, Caroline asks Klaus of all people for help and the original vampire gives her a dress that makes Caroline stand out in the crowd.

She's positively radiant in the dress and it doesn't even need any extravagant jewelry, just the simple pendant she's wearing is more than sufficient.

Playing dress-up often doesn't end well in The Vampire Diaries, particularly when the heroes go to a themed dance. For the 1960s dance in season 2, Caroline decides to channel her inner Jackie Kennedy - a successful woman, someone whom Caroline would love to be like in the future.

Unfortunately for Caroline, the outfit and the hairstyle makes her look washed-out and unnecessarily older. Also the costume isn't very similar to the one Jackie Kennedy wore since its color is different.

Klaus is a psychopathic vampire killer but he's got a few things going for him. One of them is his eye for fashion, after all, he's an artist.

When Klaus asks Caroline to go to his family's formal party, he gives her a strong incentive to come - a beautiful gown that Caroline simply can't resist wearing. The midnight blue dress with silver beading and Caroline's hairstyle makes her look innocent and beautiful at the same time.

Stefan Salvatore was many things - but he never was a fashion icon. Especially when the fans compared Stefan to his older brother Damon who managed to be much more effortlessly elegant.

Stefan preferred casual clothes most of the time, he chose dark colors and only rarely wore something more intricate. This outfit shows all those things that were often wrong with Stefan's outfits - it looks too big, dirty, and messy like it wasn't properly ironed before.

Damon and other The Vampire Diaries men looked great in suits, Stefan and Klaus included. But Damon still wins since, well, he's Damon, and suits make him look like a candidate for a young James Bond.

In this particular instance, Damon doesn't seem too happy but that doesn't change the fact that he and a dark suit with a lighter shirt are a winning combination. Even more so since the outfit brings out the blue of Damon's eyes.

Klaus was one of the most powerful vampires in the world and his appearance sometimes hid his strength. He wasn't as tall or muscular as other heroes of the show but that never stopped him from being dangerous and a genuine threat.

Klaus mostly enjoyed wearing dark outfits and whenever he sported something lighter, he looked like a different person - but not necessarily in a good way. This outfit is one such misstep since not only doesn't it show who Klaus truly is but it also looks too big on him and the cut doesn't do anything for him.

The Vampire Diaries featured a lot of great villains but many fans consider Katherine Pierce to be the best one. Katherine was clever, cunning, beautiful, deadly, and with a cynical sense of humor that instantly made her a fan-favorite, especially in comparison to her duller human doppelganger Elena.

And Katherine certainly dressed the part of a big baddie. She had an impeccable style and even when she dressed to mean business, she still looked elegant. Like in this all-black outfit that brings out her pale skin, shows her long lean neck, and makes Katherine look like someone who's ready to kick ass and break hearts at the same time.

Unfortunately for Katherine, even her time came to an end. When Elena forced her the cure that turned her into human and Silas drained the cure from her veins, she began aging rapidly.

This outfit is the result of her distraught state of mind. Katherine looks sick and unhealthy and the color or the cut fo the outfit does very little for her, let alone the messy hairstyle.
