Twilight: The 10 Most Selfless Things Bella Has Ever Done – Screen Rant

It has been almost 8 years since the last film in the Twilightsaga graced our screens and yet the vampire phenomenon remains fairly popular. Despite the film series lacking in any real quality, Twilight managed to garner a large number of fans who worshipped Bella and Edward's relationship.

However, there are also those who are extremely critical of the vampiric saga, and with good reason. Both the books and the film series portray Edward as someone who knows no boundaries, and Bella as a well-intentioned, yet selfish young woman torn between two suitors. We like to argue, though, that Bella also has a selfless side, as listed below.

This was the event that led to the entire Twilight saga, so make of that what you will. The first novel began with Bella having just arrived in the small town of Forks to go and live with her father, Charlie. It is made abundantly clear in the original source material that Bella hated Forks and living there on a permanent basis would be Hell on Earth.

Why did she move to a town she disliked so vehemently? It turns out her mom was dating a minor league baseball player, which required them to move around a lot. Bella's mom stayed at home with her, but missed her boyfriend, and so Bellachoseto go and live with her dad so that her mom could be happy.

In the second film in the franchise, Jacob and Bella's relationship took center stage and Edward was relegated to a background character. This was due to an accident on Bella's birthday that ended with Jasper, Edward's brother, trying to kill Bella. Devastated, Edward and his family left town without Bella.

This didn't sit well with Bella, who became withdrawn and depressed, which lead to recklessness. After an almost lethal incident, Rosalie misinformed Edward that Bella was dead, causing the latter to try and kill himself. Bella saved Edward though and forgave him and Rosalie immediately, despite all the pain they had caused her.

This may seem fairly trivial on the surface, but actually, it goes a lot deeper than one might think. Throughout the saga, Bella managed to keep the fact that her boyfriend was a vampire a secret from everyone, which was quite an impressive accomplishment in itself. However, when she herself was turned, things got more complicated.

She told her dad all that he needed to know, and Charlie accepted that his daughter was different now. However, Bella refused to tell her mom what had happened, sacrificing her relationship with her in the process, as she could never again be 100% honest with Rene. To do this must have taken serious guts.

Back when Bella first met Edward, the latter was no particularly pleasant towards her at all. He would completely freeze her out, and then be utterly charming the next day. As Bella put it, his sudden mood swings gave her whiplash. Unfortunately, things only got worse after Edward saved her from getting squished in a car accident.

Bella knew that he couldn't have gotten to her in time, and that she wasn't imagining things, but Edward refused to explain himself. He treated Bella like crap and she deserved better at that moment. Rather than reveal what happened out of spite however, Bella kept her word and kept Edward's secret, even when he was being ajerk.

No one is perfect, and Bella, Edward, and Jacob definitely fall into that category. All three central characters have done various dubious acts throughout the Twilight saga, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they're bad people. They don't set out to cause trouble, but they do hurt others with their actions.

For example, Bella was completely and madly in love with Edward, but then he left and Jacob stepped up to pick up the pieces. Bella then kept Jacob around because she liked him and enjoyed his company, knowing how he felt about her. Eventually, though, Bella had to let Jacob go, sacrificing their friendship so that Jacob could be happy again.

One great and pure thing about Bella is that she would do anything to prevent her family and friends from getting hurt, no matter what the cost. In the first film of the series, Bella ended up on the run, hiding from a vampire tracker named James. She hid with Alice and Jasper, while Edward hunted down James.

Unfortunately, James used old video footage to convince Bella that he had kidnapped her mother and lured her into a trap. Despite not realizing that her mom was perfectly fine, Bella risked everything to go and save her. She walked into James's trap, knowing full well that she was about to die, all so that her mom would be safe.

Back when the Cullen family had left Forks, seemingly for good, Bella became a temporary adrenaline seeker. After a near-death experience, Edward, thinking Bella was dead, went to Italy to ask the Volturi to end his life. Alice knew of his plans andasked Bella to help her stop him before it was too late.

The Volturi are some of the oldest vampires in the world, and the most dangerous, so Bella, by agreeing to help Edward, once again risked her life to save others. This time was slightly different, as the last time she had seen Edward, he had told her in no uncertain terms that he didn't love her, and despite this, she still dropped everything to save him.

Not all vampires in the Twilight saga are as pure and good as the Cullen family. Most vamps are actually bloodthirsty hunters, especially newly made vampires. These vampires are known as newborns and are the most feral and uncontrollable vampires. They also have immense strength due to the remaining human blood in their system.

The Cullens encountered an army of newborns in Eclipse, so viewers knew what they were life firsthand. When Bella turned, she became a newborn and everyone expected her to become a vicious killing machine. Instead, she was able to control her bloodlust and even stopped herself mid hunt, saving the life of a total stranger.

In the fourth and penultimate film of the saga, Bella and Edward finally tied the knot in a beautiful wedding ceremony. Afterward, they went off on their honeymoon.Intimacy was a majorissue for both of them, as Edward was worried that he would get carried away at the moment and severely hurt Bella due to his supernatural strength.

However, the couple managed to overcome this particular obstacle and were finally blissfully happy. However, their various sexual encounters led to Bella becoming pregnant with Renesmee. However, this pregnancy was slowly killing Bella, but she refused to abort, determined to make sure her daughter was safe.

At first glance, this sounds like the exact opposite of selfless. However, context is required to fully comprehend the selflessness of this act. In the final film (and book), the Cullens learn that the Volturi are coming to potentially kill them and take aw/ay Bella and Edward's daughter. They were innocent, but preparations had to be made.

All of the Cullens and most of their allies were willing to fight the Volturi to protect Renesmee. Knowing this, and knowing that a battle was most likely imminent, Bella had secured documentation for both Jacob and Renesmee in order to ensure that both would survive the incoming conflict. She was prepared to say goodbye to her daughter forever, just so that Renesmee would be alive.
