V Wars: What Season 2 Could Have Been About | Screen Rant – Screen Rant

V Warswas Netflixs latest attempt at the vampire game and even though the streaming service recently cancelled the series, there could have been some radical developments ahead for the second season.

V Wars takes an interesting approach to the vampire genre and treats the deadly transformation like more of a virus. Dr. Luther Swann (Ian Somerhalder) attempts to find answers and a cure for the rapidly growing crisis and matters become more complex from him since his best friend, Michael Fayne (Adrian Holmes), is the initial one to contract the vampire virus. One of the things that V Wars is most concerned about is the societal rift that rises between Bloods and Anti-Bloods over the course of this infection and a tenuous balance is maintained between humans and vampires.

As the first season of V Wars came to a close, its season finale made some major changes and helped set the table for a different dynamic in the shows second season. Calix Nikolos pulls off a number of massive moves, like turning himself into a vampire with the original biomass (and effectively ruining any hopes of using it for a cure), becoming the new leader of Blood Nation, and tricking his own kind so they'll distrust humans. He appears to get Michael executed and hes also responsible for getting Luthers son kidnapped, whos the remaining hope of an immunity. The final moments of the season are set four months later after Calix has infected over 30 million more people and a grizzled Swann is ready for revenge. Unfortunately, the shows cancellation leaves his Luthers vendetta unsettled.

A second season of V Wars may not be in the cards but the series of novels and comics that they were based upon leave a decent enough blueprint to predict some of the broader strokes of season two. Luther Swann's mission for peace between factions has turned into a revenge mission as he's desperate to get back his son, Dez, and Blood Nation is now considerably stronger than the humans. It certainly seemed like Michael met his end at season ones conclusion and while the show probably would have found a way to bring back Adrian Holmes character, this second season may have been more about stripping Swann of all of his support systems and leaving him utterly alone.

The second volume of the Christopher Maberrys V Wars series looks at vampires vying for their own nation as they continue to grow in power and indoctrinate the government as the Vampire Wars become more intense. It also introduces the powerful vampire character, the Crimson Queen, who leads Blood Nation to unprecedented success. The V Wars series had made several pivots from its source material, so its unclear if the Crimson Queen would appear and usurp Calix, but the severe stakes of her mission still feel like theyd be communicated regardless.

It would have been interesting to see how Luther survives when the odds are now so against him and if V Wars would have dipped into any more characters from its source material to act as allies, or if hed be alone. Sadly, Netflix isnt continuing with V Wars, but at least Maberrys novel and comics are still out there to give fans some resolution.
