What We Do in the Shadows: All of Colin Robinson’s New Powers – CBR – Comic Book Resources

Colin Robinson, the energy vampire, gets a promotion in the latest episode of What We Do in the Shadows as well as a new set of powers.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers forWhat We Do in the Shadows Season 2, Episode 5, "Colin's Promotion", which aired Wednesday on FX.

The boring Colin Robinson is one of the most fascinating characters inWhat We Do in the Shadowsbecause he is not a traditional vampire like the others. As an energy vampire, hecan drain humans and vampires in person or online by boring them. Unlike traditional vampires, energy vampires can easily blend into society becausethey aren't affected by religious imagery, cango out in the sunlight, and have reflections, and this is why Colin, unlike his roommates, can maintain a nine-to-five job in a cubicle office.

In the office, Colin is that gray cloud almost everyone has encountered at the workspace. However, where somepeople may mentally drain their coworkers, Colin literally drains those he works with, which gives him the same benefits that drinking blood gives to Nadja, Nandor, and Laszlo. Despite feeding off his coworkers and knowing nothing about the company he works for, Collin manages to be promotedas the boss, which gives him an extra boost of energy.

One of the downsides of being an energy vampire is that people and vampires are unaware of when someone like Colin is being genuine or trying to feed. As a result, Colin has been cast out by his roommates, making him feel invalid. However, as the boss, Colin is now in a position where people have to listen to him and treat him like he's important. With the undivided attention of his employees, Colin can feed more than ever before.

His draining technique advances quickly. No longer does Colin need a long-winded story to drain others. He can simply tell a bad joke and flash his finger guns, and he can make any employee collapse from exhaustion in a matter of seconds.Along with feeding more, the excess energy he's accumulated has led to new powers and side effects that Colin masters without needing any practice.

The first of these is the ability to levitate objects by simply pointing at them. He does so to Nandor's painting, which depicts his siege on Nadja's village. This leads to an argument between Nandor and Nadja, which Colin seamlessly stokes to feed off of them, demonstrating how advanced his energy draining has become.

While fleeing the argument, Colin is seen floating.Traditional vampires can turn into bats and fly, but this is the first time fans see Colin take flight, and he doesn't even need to transform into a flying creature.Along withthese superpowered bonuses, physically Colin changes. At first, the usually bald vampire rapidly grows a head of hair. However, not long after, he shaves it, revealing how his head has swollen to Megamind proportions, but this swelling too goes down.

With his newfound confidence, Colin has expanded beyond feeding off his employees, tormenting his roommates for excluding him for far too long. Where his coworkers pass out after being drained, fellow vampires age rapidly and become lethargic. When they attempt to escape Colin, he blocks them in by duplicating himself, another new power of his.

Adownside of this power is that with three Colins, they drain the energy of every living and undead being in the room, and that includes the other Colins. After a long-winded plan, the Colins die, freeing the vampires and Guillermo, Nandor's familiar. The roommates bury the bodies and share a genuine moment over their loss of Colin. However, the original Colin comes back to life, but his powers did kill his clones permanently.

Along with things in the house returningto normal, Colin seems to return to his normal self, which is not entirely his choice. Another downside ofthe overuse of his powers as well as his lack of knowledge on the company has led to his place of work shutting down. Colin finds a new hunting ground, starting from the bottom once again, but this time he feels a little more valued by his roommates at home.

Airing Wednesdays at 10 pm ET/PT on FX, What We Do in the Shadows stars Kayvan Novak, Natasia Demetriou, Matt Berry, Mark Proksch and Harvey Guillen. Taika Waititi co-produces alongside Jemaine Clement, Scott Rudin, Paul Simms and Garrett Basch.
