Will V Wars on Netflix be getting a season 2? – digitalspy.com

Note: this article contains spoilers for V Wars.

Netflix's blood-sucking new series V Wars dropped on Thursday, December 5, and if you've already binged your way through all 10 episodes, you might be left wondering whether a season two is on the cards.

Nothing official has been confirmed just yet, but leading man and executive producer Ian Somerhalder (Vampire Diaries) is definitely hoping to continue the story.

During a recent interview with Digital Spy, he explained: "Season one of shows, they're tough. You're trying to find your footing, you're trying to find your character, you're trying to find the look of the show. You're really learning a lot..."

Somerhalder pointed out the difference from working to a Network format, where you would typically get a much longer run (somewhere between 18 -22 episodes). Season one of V Wars debuted with 10 parts, and Ian has teased that there's so much yet to come.

"It's a really condensed way of telling the story," he said. "And we just kind of scratch the surface. That's why I'm excited to present season one, because I know what's coming, and the subsequent seasons of what we have lined up for the show are, pardon my French, they're f**king sick. They really are!"

There's plenty of material to adapt too, as V Wars is based on the works of Jonathan Maberry.

"There's five books here. Which is an amazing amount of source material, and it's really well written," Somerhalder said. "And numerous graphic novels, which also serve as a visual reference, and a story reference and a character reference."

"Not only is he a best-selling author, but he is a prolific writer," Ian later added of the author. "And the most kind, gentle man without an ego. He loves the fact that we have modified a few things in the story. He gets to become a fan, he gets to be entertained reading his own stuff because we've altered it a little bit but we're following this amazing story."

As a brand new show that's not yet been renewed, it's really hard to predict when a follow-up might be on the cards.

V Wars was first announced back in April 2018, with the lead roles getting cast soon after. Filming followed a few months later, and season one dropped on December 5, 2019.

Judging by this, if future episodes do get the green light, we wouldn't expect them much before 2021.

As we've said previously, there's a huge amount of source material to work with, so the possibilities are vast.

Season one introduced Dr Luther Swann (Ian Somerhalder) and Michael Fayne (Adrian Holmes), two best friends who find themselves in opposite sides of a fight when Michael is hit with a mysterious virus that turns him into a vampire.

Meanwhile Swann is working hard to try and develop a cure at first to try and save his friend, but also for humanity's sake as the infliction continues to spread.

Season one really sets the scene of this scary new world, where the vampire virus is causing divisions, invoking fear and collapsing society as we know it.

According to actor Adrian Holmes, the show is a completely different take on the whole vampire genre. "The show itself is progressive and touches on a lot of issues that we have to deal with, such as environmental issues and climate change," he told Digital Spy.

As seen in season one, V Wars' vampires don't just turn from a bite the virus is dependent on having a particular human gene in order to become one. There are also different types of vampires, depending on the individual person.

As for whether Holmes would like to see a second season, the answer is an obvious one.

"Absolutely! Absolutely, that's a no-brainer," he also told us. "I would love to come back and reprise the role and get to work with Brad Turner, our amazing director who mans the ship, and of course Ian again. We have such a great bond with everybody.

"I think it would be sad to not get another kick at the can, so hopefully it works out and the fans really respond well to it. Hopefully it's well-received and they love it and want to see us back again. Fingers crossed."

The cast also includes Jacky Lai (Kaylee Vo), Michael Greyeyes (Jimmy Saint), Peter Outerbridge (Calix Niklos) and Kimberly-Sue Murray (Danika).

There isn't a trailer for season two, but we'll leave the first one here for now:
