Defendants arraigned in Taylor County Circuit Court Thursday – Mountain Statesman

TAYLOR COUNTYWhen Taylor County Circuit Court convened on Thursday, defendants were brought before the honorable Judge Alan D. Moats for arraignment in their cases.

Many of the arraignments were carried out on cases that were recently indicted by the Taylor County Grand Jury.

During the hearings, Moats arraigned two individuals who were charged with sex crimes and set bond amounts for the defendants.

Both Charles Bonner, Sr. and Louellen Bonner were arraigned on various counts of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian or person in a position of trust, sexual assault in the first degree and incest.

Judge Moats entered not guilty pleas on behalf of the defendant and offered thirty days for their counsel to obtain discovery and file any motions in the matter.

During the hearing, bond was addressed, and because of the severity of the charges, Moats ordered a $250,000 bond amount for each of the defendants.

Taylor County Prosecuting Attorney John Bord revealed that he had nine individuals who had been indicted for the grand jury, fail to show for their hearings Thursday.

We had a lot of no shows, but it is because many of those individuals are already being charged with felony escape or failure to appear, he noted.

Those defendants included Douglas Scotchel and Melissa Riggleman, who were indicted on a failure to appear charge. Additionally, Aaron D Combs, Christopher Lee Larew, and Michael Todd Lohr who were facing arraignment for felony escape charges.

Justin Philip Moore, who was charged with driving while license suspended or revoked for driving while under the influence third or subsequent offense, by Taylor County Sheriffs Department Chief Deputy R. Durrett and additionally charged with the same crime by Grafton Police Department Officer Cosby, did not appear in court, Bord reported.

He revealed that Jody Ray McCartney, of Bridgeport, who was indicted for manufacture of a controlled substance Timothy Junior Newlon, charged with two counts of third offense domestic battery and James Robert Johnston, Jr., of Reedsville, who was charged with two counts of third offense shoplifting, did not show either

Among the defendants who did appear before Moats were: Nicholas Scott Poe, Dennis Sheppard, Aaron Shayne Simpson, Alexander Wolf Weinstein, Jessica Whitmer and John Wortman.

Moats arraigned the defendants on their charges and entered not guilty pleas on their behalf. Furthermore, he ordered that their counsel would have a thirty-day period of gather discovery and file motions.

The defendants are innocent until proven guilty and are awaiting future hearings.
