Grieving man got drunk and decided to retrieve ‘note’ from late partner – Lancashire Telegraph

A MAN grieving the loss of his partner who died of a brain tumour was told she had written a note to him before she died.

Blackburn magistrates heard Christopher Lee Read turned up at the home of the woman he believed had the note in a drunken state and started shouting abuse and threats at her and other people on the street.

Read, 39, of Queen Street, Clayton-le-Moors, pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour. He was made subject to a curfew for eight weeks between 7 pm and 7 am and ordered to pay 85 costs and 95 victim surcharge.

Rachel Ottley, prosecuting, said Read turned up in Coleridge Close, Great Harwood around lunch time. He was shouting abuse and witnesses said he was frothing at the mouth and slurring his words. He was carrying a bottle of Jack Daniels.

Waseem Chowdhary, defending, said his client had received information that his partner had left a note before she died.

"He was told the note was with the complainant in this case," said Mr Chowdhary.

"He had consumed alcohol when he turned up to collect the note and he accepts his behaviour was out of control."

Mr Chowdhary said it turned out there was no note and his client had been misled, possibly deliberately.

"He has now moved on from the whole situation," said Mr Chowdhary.
