Harnett County man charged in shooting that left Benson man dead – The Fayetteville Observer

LILLINGTON The Harnett County Sheriffs Office has arrested a second man in connection with a May 23 shooting that left a Benson man dead, according to a news release.

Christopher Lee Martin, 30, of Cater Lane in Lillington, was arrested Sunday, the release said. He is charged with aggravated assault and weapons violations related to the shooting of an Angier man who is charged with murder of a third man, according to the release.

Martin was held at the Harnett County Detention Center with bail set at $275,000.

The shooting was reported on Cater Lane in Lillington just after 4 p.m. May 23. Deputies found Montice Williams, 31, of Benson, dead from a gunshot wound, the statement said.

Zachary Tyler Johnson, 23, of Raeford Road in Angier, was charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Williams. Johnson also suffered a gunshot wound, according to the release. Martin is charged in that shooting.

He remains in the Harnett County Detention Center without bail.

The Sheriffs Office has not said what led to the shooting.
