Man accused of fraud involving auto parts waives right to hearing in Harrison WV – WV News

CLARKSBURG A 59-year-old accused of scheming to have three area companies billed for nearly $10,000 worth of auto parts he ultimately received has given up his right to a probable cause hearing.

After Michael T. Mutafis waived his right to the hearing on a felony fraudulent schemes charge, Harrison Magistrate Mark Gorby sent the case to circuit court.

State Police Cpl. Steven Swiger alleges Mutafis would contact stores for a national auto parts chain and order merchandise, billing it to the three companies. Mutafis had the items delivered to various locations, where he took possession of them, Swiger alleged.

Mutafis hasnt worked for any of the three companies, nor did he have permission from them to order merchandise, according to Swiger.

Mutafis received about $6,500 worth of merchandise billed to one company, about $1,200 billed to another, and about $2,000 to the third company, according to Swiger.

Mutafis also had delivery drivers from the auto parts chain occasionally drive him to another location to deliver merchandise he had sold to others, Swiger alleged.

Christopher Lee Martin, 28, of Shinnston, has agreed to a postponement of his probable cause hearing before Harrison Magistrate Keith Marple on charges of burglary and possession with intent to deliver.

Martins bail was reduced Friday from $40,000 to $15,000.

Martin broke into the home of relatives Thursday and stole pain pills, law enforcement alleges.

Martin later was found in possession of the pills; there was enough quantity to warrant the possession with intent to deliver charge, law enforcement alleges.

Deputies Z.N. Kesling and Donald Navarini III led the investigation.

Larry Scott Napper, 30, of Morgantown, has agreed to a postponement of his probable cause hearing before Gorby on a possession with intent to deliver charge, according to Snuffer.

During a traffic stop earlier this month on Old Bridgeport Hill, law enforcement recovered about 3.82 grams of presumed methamphetamine in Nappers possession, Harrison Deputy Dillon Nuzum has alleged.

Sheriffs Sgt. John Laulis and police dog Rebbel assisted.

Beth Ann Allevato, 48, of Clarksburg, has agreed to a postponement of her probable cause hearing before Gorby on an attempted burglary charge.

Earlier this month, Allevato unlawfully tried to enter a dwelling on Oak Street in Clarksburg, Harrison Deputy Z.N. Kesling has alleged.
