Murder suspects, 87 others, indicted in Carroll – Galax Gazette

HILLSVILLE A Carroll County Circuit Court grand jury met March 16 and certified charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder against two Galax residents.

Codie Nathaniel Fletcher, 22, and Kayla Ann Fulton, 21, are suspects in the July 2019 homicide of Alexandra Dare Taylor, 20.

On July 24, 2019, two out-of-town hikers discovered her body in a barn off the New River Trail near the Cliffview Community of Carroll County, just outside Galax. Fletcher and Fulton were arrested a day later, after Taylors car was discovered by investigators.

Investigators have said they believe that Taylors death was the result of a robbery involving illicit substances.

The grand jury also indicted Robert T. Timms, 41, of Rootstown, Ohio, for four counts of attempted capital murder, destruction of property, felony eluding, and hit and run, in connection with an incident in August 2019 on Interstate 77.

Before his burning tractor-trailer was finally stopped in North Carolina, Timms took Virginia State Police on a 38-mile pursuit down I-77 on Aug. 28.

According to a Virginia State Police report, troopers in Wythe County tried to pull over Timms southbound tractor-trailer, which wasnt staying in its lane on the interstate.

The driver didnt stop and allegedly hit two state police vehicles during the pursuit, which went through Wythe and Carroll counties on the interstate. North Carolina Highway Patrol then picked up the chase and used stop sticks to slow down the truck. When the front tires gave out, it caused a fire that spread to the cab, and the vehicle finally stopped.

The grand jury returned indictments against 89 people on March 16. The 137 formal charges will be advanced to trial after the grand jury found sufficient evidence at preliminary hearings. Those charged are considered innocent until proven guilty.
