North takes 2 close losses

INDIANAPOLIS Columbus North played two of the states top three teams on Saturday and came away with respectable showings in a 42-36 loss at Class 4A No. 2 Lawrence North and a 62-54 defeat against 4A No. 3 Crown Point.

The Bull Dogs (2-4) trailed Lawrence North 36-18 after three quarters before outscoring the Wildcats 18-6 in the final period. Alexa McKinley scored 14 points, and Sierra Norman added 10 to lead North.

The Bull Dogs were within three points against Crown Point after three quarters. McKinley scored 14 points, and Madison White had 11 for North.

The Crown Point game especially, I thought we did a pretty good job, North coach Pat McKee said. Theres always a mistake or two to clean up, but the overall effort, focus and performance was excellent. That was a quality team with multiple Division I players. Unfortunately, we didnt pull out the win, but we played really well.

Panthers down Lions

NORTH VERNON Jennings County trailed 26-25 at halftime Saturday before coming back to post a 56-52 win against Rushville.

Addyson Kent led the Panthers (2-3) with 18 points. Lily Ernstes added 12.

Lancers rout Hornets

EDINBURGH Edinburgh used balanced scoring Saturday to roll to a 74-48 win against Indianapolis Howe.

Anneliese Lollar led the Lancers (5-1) with 18 points. Callie Hancock, Destiney Ramey and Haven Link all added 15,

Columbus Christian wins

DUGGER Columbus Christian trailed by two points entering the fourth quarter Friday before ralling for a 54-47 Southern Roads Conference win at Dugger Union.

Ellie Ridder led the Crusaders (6-2) with 16 points. Kinidy Morgan scored 13, and Kayla Jones and Madison Henderson each added 10.

BOYS BASKETball

Eagles top Crusaders

A night after winning its first game of the season, Columbus Christian fell at Brown County 49-40, with the Eagles picking up their first win.

Carter Kelly led the Eagles (1-1) with 16 points, while Aaron McCann added 12. Josh Jones and Jacob Conrad each scored 12 to lead the Crusaders (1-6).

Columbus Christian was coming off a 64-47 SRC win at Dugger Union on Friday. Gabe Ridder scored 28 points, and C.J. Reed added 19 to lead the Crusaders.

Panthers edge Trojans

NORTH VERNON Freshman Keegan Manowitz poured in 27 points to lead Jennings County to a 74-71 win against East Central.

Carson McNulty added 18 points and six assists for the Panthers. Jacob Vogel had 10 points.

Braves topple Lancers

TRAFALGAR Indian Creek jumped out to a 52-15 halftime lead and went on to hand Edinburgh an 86-30 defeat.

Caleb Dewey led the Lancers (0-2) with 12 points.

SWIMMING

Panthers sweep North

Perennial power North Central swept Columbus North on Saturday, taking the boys meet 101-82 and the girls meet 119-64.

Indiviual winners for the Bull Frog boys were David Fry in the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 11.09 seconds), Kyan Jiles in diving (206.05), Aidan McAlister in the 500 freestyle (5:15.59) and Christopher Lee in the 100 backstroke (56.45). North also won the 200 freestyle relay (1:32.16).

For the girls, Naomy Argueta-Ventura won the diving (159.85), Betsty King took the 100 freestyle (54.30) and Erica Samuel captured the 500 freestyle (5:15.82).
