Son charged with murdering mother in Alexander – Wilkes Journal Patriot

A Taylorsville man has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of his mother in the Sugar Loaf community of northern Alexander County.

Christopher Lee Brown, 36, was arrested Wednesday and placed in the Alexander County Detention Center in Taylorsville with no bond. An investigation found that the shooting resulted from a domestic dispute, stated an Alexander Sheriffs Office press release.

The release said Brown was identified as the victims son but the victims name wasnt given.

Alexander deputies found the victim Wednesday morning with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso and an arm when they responded to a 911 call about a shooting at a home on Harbert Mountain Road, which off Mount Olive Church Road in Sugar Loaf. The call was received at about 8:47 a.m.

Information received was that the suspect had left the scene armed and in a vehicle. Responding officers were told to look for a small gray hatchback vehicle and while en route located a vehicle matching this description at the intersection of N.C. 16 and Mount Olive Church Road

Officers pursued the vehicle for about two miles on Mount Olive Church Road and then when it turned on Harbert Mountain Road.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Brown, was taken into custody when the car stopped near the residence where the woman with gunshot wounds was found. Brown had a firearm in his possession when he was taken into custody.

Alexander Emergency Medical Services was transporting the victim to a helicopter landing zone off nearby Seth Deal Lane when they pronounced her dead.

Brown has a first appearance Alexander County District Court on Oct. 19.

Alexander Sheriff Chris said he wanted to thank Alexander EMS, the Taylorsville Police Department, N.C. Highway Patrol and Sugar Loaf Fire Department first responders for their assistance.
