Weve selected a few names from the Lord Of The Rings cast and put together a guide to the best films (according to IMDb) that theyve had a key role in, as long as it isnt anything to do with Lord Of The Rings.

Despite his performance in Lord Of The Rings not quite living up to that of his co-stars, Elijah Wood has been able to prove himself elsewhere.

The miniseries Over The Garden Wall stars Wood as Wirt as he and his half-brother travel through a strange forest. The series as a whole averages 8.8, with the finale managing to attain a seriously strong 9.5.

Known primarily for bringing Aragorn to the big screen, Viggo Mortensen (very cool name, by the way) has also had some impressive roles.

According to IMDb, his 2018 starring role in Green Book is his best role outside of Middle Earth, racking up an 8.2 average; impressive for a film about the driver of a pianist.

The Lord Of The Rings franchise may well dominate the top three positions on Cate Blanchetts IMDb list, but her appearance in Thor: Ragnark is placed fourth.

She plays Hela, the older sister of Thor and the Goddess Of Death, who ends up in a rather dramatic confrontation with her brother in the film.

Bloom very quickly turned into a household name around the time the Lord Of The Rings films were being released.

In the same year that his highest rated film (The Return Of The King) was released, he starred opposite Johnny Depp in the first Pirates Of The Caribbean film, which achieves an average of 8.0.

Possibly most well-known for his incredible career as an actor on the stage, Ian McKellen is a legend in the world of performance.

Getting the charming man to portray Gandalf was a stroke of genius, and so was the decision to cast him as Magneto in X-Men: Days Of Future Past(8.0).

Astin may not be one of the household names in the Lord Of The Rings franchise, but he does certainly hold one of the most iconic roles that you might not have connected to his appearance in the franchise.

He is the leader of the pack in the 1985 comedy The Goonies, which deservedly averages 7.8 on IMDb.

Known for very rarely being able to get out of a film without being killed, Sean Beans role in The Lord Of The Rings is no different.

His role in Game Of Thrones is no different either, with his character, Ned Stark, being beheaded in the incredible 9.6 rated episode Baelor.

Even if Lost ended up spiraling into a mess that demonstrates exactly what happens to a TV show if you go in without a plan, it started off strong. Incredibly strong, actually.

Monoghan plays Charlie Pace, an important character in the first few seasons, with his final full episode being rated an incredible 9.7 thanks to overwhelming tension, action and emotional impact.

Boyd might be basically just as well-known for his role in the Chucky franchise as he is for playing Pippin in Lord Of The Rings, but the Chucky films arent exactly known for their critical response.

As such, his highest rating on IMDb is an 8.6, thanks to his role in Outlander, in particular, the 2020 episode Better To Marry Than Burn.

Despite having enjoyed a successful career full of impressive performances, Liv Tyler doesnt actually have a particularly impressive CV when you look beyond her time spent in Middle Earth.

According to IMDb, her best role is in Reign Over Me, a 2007 drama starring Adam Sandler (oh dear, this cant be good), which scores a rather uninspiring 7.4.

Andy Serkis is pretty much the undisputed king of motion capture. He is about the most in-demand motion capture artist in the world at the moment, and his ridiculously long list of credits reflect that.

He was the one to bring the horribly creepy Gollum to life, as well as Supreme Leader Snoke from Star Wars VII and VIII. However, it is actually his role in The Prestige which earns an impressive 8.5 average.

Alongside Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee brought the class, swagger and years and years of experience in how to be at the top of your game forever to Lord Of The Rings. His performance as Saruman is inspiring, creepy and powerful, and the fact he reprised it for The Hobbit while in his 90s is nothing short of incredible.

The role at the top of his list is an unexpected one: the 1998 biographical drama Jinnah, in which he stars (8.0)

It might not be the most serious role in the franchise, but its certainly an important one. John Rhys-Davies is disguised beneath mounds of hair, but its still him bringing life to Gimli throughout all three films.

His role in Raiders Of The Lost Ark comes rather close to matching the average rating of the Lord Of The Rings films, but falls just short at 8.4.

To have a career so impressive that your role in Lord Of The Rings is often overshadowed and forgotten about is a strange place to be in. Despite having voiced Chucky himself for a number of years, it is, of course, Dourifs most iconic role that tops his list.

One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest is considered one of the greatest films ever made, and Dourifs performance of Billy Bibbet is one of the films most gripping.
