‘THE THING’ REMAKE COMING FROM BLUMHOUSE – HorrorCultFilms

I know I know. Out of all the remakes weve seen or that have been announced of late, another version of The Thing sounds like one of the most pointless. Christian Nybys 1951 adaptation The Thing from Another World was a solid gold carat classic and then in 1982 John Carpenter went and made a version that was even better. Why do another one?

Well, it sounds like theres some reasoning behind this. Both earlier films were based on a novella Who Goes There?, which was written by John W. Campbell Jr. and serialised in a magazine entitled Astounding Science Fiction way back in 1938. However, this novella was a heavily shortened version of a novel called Frozen Hell which was considered to be too long for the magazine. And the original novel has recently been discovered, a novel which expands the story dramatically, giving vital backstory and context to an already incredible tale.

Said producer Alan Donnes recently on Facebook:

Its official! I received my signed contract and first check! I am Executive Producing a remake of The Thing but with additional chapters of John Campbells groundbreaking novel, Frozen Hell, that had been lost for decades. Now, for the first time ever, Campbells full vision will be realized on the big screen. The new film will include the very best of RKOs The Thing From Another World, John Carpenters The Thing and both books, Frozen Hell and Who Goes There?

Some investigating by other websites has apparently revealed this to be true. I have to admit, I am intrigued by this one, even though Im sick and tired of all these remakes.

I'm a huge film fan and will watch pretty much any type of film, from Martial Arts to Westerns, from Romances [though I don't really like Romcoms!]] to Historical Epics. Though I most certainly 'have a life', I tend to go to the cinema twice a week! However, ever since I was a kid, sneaking downstairs when my parents had gone to bed to watch old Universal and Hammer horror movies, I've always been especially fascinated by horror, and though I enjoy all types of horror films, those Golden Oldies with people like Boris Karloff and Christopher Lee probably remain my favourites. That's not to say I don't enjoy a bit of blood and gore every now and again though, and am also a huge fan of Italian horror, I just love the style.
