Wimmer to give final performance after 10 years at CVCB – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN Jade Wimmer will give her final performance at Cache Arts in The Firebird on Saturday, March 21, ending a decade as a ballerina at Cache Valley School of Ballet (CVCB).

The Ridgeline High School senior has performed in a variety high profile roles for the ballet company, including, the Sugar Plum Fairy in the Nutcracker, Cinderella in Cinderella, Aurora in Sleeping Beauty, the Vampire Queen in Dracula, Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland, and Clara in the Nutcracker.

Ive been a dancer for 10 years and learned many things, Jade said. Ive grown up with it. It has been a big part of my life.

She said ballet is something you can always strive to be better at and she is always trying to improve her technique every time she dances. She hasnt really worried about where the highly technical field of dance will take her.

Ballet has always been in the now, she said. I havent been worried about where it will lead, I want to see where it will take me. We will see if it goes to the professional level or not.

If she does become a professional dancer, she would prefer a smaller metropolitan ballet company, she said.

When Wimmer first started, she said the classes were a blast.

It was like I was in a party on stage, but it wasnt my main thing, I also did a lot of athletics, she said. My junior year I set my mind on doing strictly dance and very glad I did.

Even though her family didnt know much about dance, they have helped her all the way.

Ive had unbelievable support from mom and dad. I couldnt have done it without them, she said. They dont know much about ballet, but they supported me anyway.

Over the years she had a lot of instructors. She said Sandra Emile got her started, then Vivian Taylor, Karyn Hansen, Stephanie Casperson and Becky Erickson all shaped her into the dancer she is today.

Besides dance, she also was involved in student government at Ridgeline. As a straight A student, she was accepted into the University of Utah dance program.Wimmer was accepted into the universitys ballet program for next fall.

The U of U program is one of the most highly regarded programs in the country, her mother, Wendy Wimmer, said. They only accept 25 new students a year.

Jade will also enroll in the pre-med program at the University, her mother added. Her brains are far better than her ballet.

Jade enjoys the science part of her schooling.

I love human anatomy. Im a nerd for that kind of science, she said. I love that kind of thing.

Next year, she will be in the advanced program and taking her generals.

We will see where life takes me, she said. Hopefully I can do well in school and dance.

The Firebird ballet was written by Russian composerIgor Stravinsky, and is based on a Russianlegendof a powerful good spirit withfeathersconveying beauty and protection on the earth.

Stravinsky borrowed some folk melodies in his score, but the fluttering dance of the Firebird and the wedding march at the end of the ballet was his own work.

Cache Valley Ballet will present Firebird Friday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday March 21 with a matinee at 1:30 p.m. and again at 7:30 p.m. in the Ellen Eccles Theatre.
