There may have been 12 movies starring Jason Voorhees, but that doesn't mean there can't be more. The conversation about the popular Friday The 13th franchise is always raging on amongst horror fans, with many hoping there will be more additions to the popular series.
However, at the same time, thereare plenty of people who have no desire to see another movie from the masked monster. The argument will no doubt rage on until another movie is inevitably made, but the question is, does the horror world need one more?
The movies tend to perform well, hence why it has become such an iconic franchise. But how much of a good thing is too much? Within this list, we will be giving five examples for why we need one more, and five examples of why we do not.

2020 would mark the 40th anniversary of the original Friday The 13th movie. So what better time to bring the classic franchise back to scare audiences once again then that? Just a tease for an upcoming film would do, or an image of the mask to get fans excited.
With many older fans likely rewatching the movie and some form of anniversary celebration about it, there will be a lot of talk about the franchise once again. With a buzz around it, there is no better time to have the movie remade once more.
One problem that the horror genre is facing at the moment is the fact that many fans are now seeking to be scared by something far more real. People want 'real' stories to be told with scares that are believable, with stories people have experienced often being turned into movies nowadays.
The days of a big scary monster roaming around slowly, waiting for someone to inevitably trip up seem to be a thing of the past. That is sadly the era that Friday The 13th films are stuck in, so it is debatable as to whether people want to see Jason roaming around the woods once again.
Scary monsters may no longer be as scary as they used to be, but something that is always terrifying is someone wielding a blade and slashing it at everything. Friday The 13th is essentially a slasher franchise, and that is never going to go out of fashion.

The main reason that slasher movies are so terrifying is that they are more relatable. Stories are often on the news about instances involving knives and similar weapons, which is why these types of movies are so scary to watch, and will never get old.
Sure, some of the later sequels were nowhere near the same quality as the first few movies, but for the most part, the Friday The 13th franchise has a favorable respect from most horror fans. Therefore the decision to bring it back with a remake is always going to open up the opportunity to ruin that.
The legacy of this franchise is incredibly well known and any new movie has the potential of damaging that if it is poor. This is a risk some fans would rather not see taken, simply leaving the franchise in the past.
We might have had 12 different movies starring Jason, but the last one came in 2009 and therefore, there has certainly been a long enough period of time to warrant another. There is a whole generation of horror fans who have never experienced this movie in the cinema, and that should be enough to encourage a newone to be made.

Seeing Jason in a new environment would be a huge deal for many fans and it would certainly be welcomed by people. With such a demand for the movie, it seems impossible that there won't be one created eventually in the new decade.
This is mainly an issue for fans of the franchise who have seen the previous movies. However, it remains exactly that, an issue. Because there have been so many different movies based around this character and story, they have actually become quite predictable.
That is the last thing that you want in a horror movie as it hardly keeps you on the edge of your seat. Having the same type of kills and jump scares repeatedly begins to wear thin after a while, and that has become a problem for this franchise.
In the past decade, old school movies and ideas have come back in fashion. Not just in terms of the movie industry, but in television, video games, and even things like fashion and home design. Old school ideas have come around to be incredibly popular and modern once again.
This is why a Friday The 13th movie would be a smart decision, as people are crying out for old school ideas to return in a fresh way. Whether it simply be a remake of the original or a modern sequel like the recent Halloween movie, if it's done correctly, it can seriously work.
While old school films such as Ithave proven to be popular, the fact is they are simply retelling the same story but with modern effects helping to make them slightly different. We don't need to see the same stuff repeatedly, instead, filmgoers would much rather get a new experience.

Fans would rather flock to see a brand new horror movie with a new character to be scared of than something that has already been done repeatedly. While there might be new kills or a slight tweak on the story, it just doesn't feel fresh anymore.
When it comes to horror characters, few are as iconic as Jason Voorhees. Because of that, having a movie involving him is always going to be a hit, at least financially. The movie simply draws people in because the character is so well known.

All fans need to see is a tease of the hockey mask andthey'll instantly know the score. It's simple and means there doesn't need to be a ton of work put into the movie for there to be a buzz. Iconic characters are always going to do well, and they tend to never truly go away, which is why Jason will be back eventually.
One of the big changes to horror since Friday The 13th was first a big hit is how popular the genre has become on television. People are now more than happy to be scared every week with TV shows keeping people on edge consistently.
Arguably the most successful and popular example of that is American Horror Story. The franchise has covered so many aspects ofthe genre throughout its history that it really has stopped the need for certain films. With the latest season,American Horror Story:1984, being incredibly similar to the set up of Friday The 13th, it's debatable if another movie is needed, as most horror fans got their fill from that.
