The Horror Film That Was Made in Union County, KY – wbkr.com

Whenever I see a trailer for a new horror movie, it seems like it would be a safe bet to assume it's another in a long line of installments in the Conjuring/Annabelle franchise.

For starters, and in the interest of full disclosure, I only ever saw the first of those films, The Conjuring. And it was good. I like that it's about actualparanormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren. Made for $20 million, the movie was an enormous hit, clearing $319 million at the box office. I've hot had a desire to see any of the sequels; the previews make it look like more of the same.

But there are SO many out there that LOOK like The Conjuring.

One of them is called The Nun. It was released in 2018 and preceded by a trailer that was, like, TEN KINDS of creepy. Now...before you start saying to yourself, "He doesn't sound like he realizes that movie IS a part of the Conjuring franchise," let me interrupt you and tell you that I DID learn it was part of that franchise. And, see, maybe that backs up my point. They ALL seem to be part of The Conjuring.

Anyway, I mentioned it recently to a friend of mine and he said that it was filmed in Union County, Kentucky. And I told him that didn't make any sense because it was set in ROMANIA. And when I searched, I found I was right.

But I also learned of ANOTHER horror/suspense thriller simply called Nun, and THAT'S the one filmed in Union County. And I never knew that. And I don't know why.

But the Henderson Gleaner knew it, and four years ago, they interviewed the film's producer, Chad Dossett. Also, it was originally called Gas Light.

Here's the trailer:

I don't know about you, but I recognize the actor William McNamara, a somewhat frequent screen presence in the 1990s--he was a serial killer in the amazing Sigourney Weaver thriller Copycat--even if I DON'T recognize the big storage facility in the clip. According to IMDB, that storage facility is in Owensboro.

But those outdoor locations once again back up my belief that Kentucky has SO much to offer filmmakers. Yes, I know there are tax credit issues with which to deal. I learned that last week in Cleveland when I found out that it doubled for New York City during the filming of The Avengers.

But, yeah, Nun, a horror movie set and shot in Union County and surrounding locations. And I'm only recently hearing about it.

For all I know, there's a movie being filmed in Kentucky right now, considering how "on top of the situation" I seem to be.

By the way, I do rant about wanting more movies shot in Kentucky. But it isn't like it's never happened. Here are 10 examples:
