Happy Rocktober! Warning: Im probably about to make you feel old.

On Oct. 10, 1995, a band out of Orange County released an album that would become one of the pillars of alternative rock in that decade and catapult the group into megastardom.

The band: No Doubt. The album: Tragic Kingdom.

I know. I cant believe its been 25 years since I started listening to that album, either.

Growing up in the Baltimore/D.C. Metro area in the 90s I remember seeing No Doubt at my very first HFStival (the East Coast equivalent to KROQs Weenie Roast) at RFK Stadium in 1996. Just a Girl had just blown up and I will never forget Gwen Stefani climbing the scaffolding in the mid-afternoon sun. It. Was. Awesome.

And it was a really great time for women in alternative rock. You had Gwen Stefani, Shirley Manson, Alanis Morissette, Courtney Love all on mainstream rock radio, not to mention the likes of Liz Phair, L7, Babes in Toyland and Bikini Kill flying a little more under the radar.

My teenage self related to none more than Gwen. What woman hasnt been told what she can and cant do? Dont Speak not only told the pain of her breakup with bassist Tony Kanal, it was the written tattoo of all of our high school heartbreak. And I STILL sing along at the top of my lungs to Spiderwebs and Excuse Me Mr. when Im driving.

From the album cover with the twist on orange crate art to the sunny horn section, Tragic Kingdom conjured images of Southern California a decade before Id move here.

So now, here we are 25 years later and I know Im not the only one who can still rattle off the track listing in order and can dig up photos of their Stefani-inspired fashion lewks. Thats what makes this weeks big story such a treat.

Reporter Kelli Skye Fadroski landed exclusive interviews with Tom Dumont, Tony Kanal,Gwen Stefani andAdrian Young to talk about the 25th anniversary of the bands breakthrough album. Despite the stardom it brought, there were also tours and some tears.

Weirdly enough, Kelli and I watched what ended up being the final set No Doubt has played to date at the inaugural Kaaboo in Del Mar back in September 2015. That night, Kelli and I kept looking at each other, remarking that it really felt like it might be last time wed see the band in a long while. And there we were in the crowd, with everyone from Stefani to the masses experiencing a catharsis with that soundtrack again just like we had for the previous 20 years.

But were not just looking back this week, were charging forward. We have a drive-in rave coming to San Bernardino and another festival announcing a return date for 2021. Read on.
