The Walking Dead star "collapsed and sobbed" filming death scene – Digital Spy

The Walking Dead has featured too many gruesome deaths over the years to count but some hit harder than others, and sweet-natured Noah's demise in the drama's fifth season has always felt especially cruel.

Noah, a survivor who formed a close friendship with Beth Greene (Emily Kinney) after she found him at Grady Memorial Hospital, was on a supply run with Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun) when things went horribly wrong and he was captured and devoured by walkers, while a devastated Glenn looked on after his attempts to help Noah failed.

It turns out that actor Tyler James Williams, who played Noah, was also devastated by his character's tragic death, as he has revealed during an interview with Collider that he "collapsed and sobbed" while filming his final scene.

Explaining that Noah's death was technically "very difficult" to film due to the special effects needed to portray a graphic walker attack, he went on to explain that it was an emotionally draining experience too.

"I've never really had an experience like that," he said. "And it's one that kind of bonded Steven Yeun and I for, I think, life in the sense of, I've never been able to kill a character and let them die and experience that with them in a very traumatic way."

"We do the scene, and we have to do the moment where I get slammed against the glass," he continued. "And that has to play all the way out because we would talk and I was like, 'There's no way I can jump and cut into just [a] scream. This is somebody's last guttural death. We have to play this whole beat out.'

"And we played the whole beat out. They called cut. And then I just kind of collapsed and sobbed for two minutes on set."

He added that his co-star Steven had comforted him, saying: "He put a hand on my back and he just started kind of whispering in my ear, 'You're letting him go. It's a beautiful thing. You really gave him a death.'

"And it was a mourning process that came immediately after we [called cut]. Because there's only one take at that. You only get one."

Tyler went on to say that he has filmed several death scenes since in other projects but explained that his experience on The Walking Dead has a unique place in his memory.

"That one was the first one, and it was unique and it was beautiful," he said. "And it was one of the most edifying moments in my career. And it bonded me with everybody in that room at the time.

"And also, everyone showed up, which was really interesting. Alanna Masterson, Lauren Cohan, Christian Serratos, they all showed up for the death. Almost as if it was a funeral..."

He added that he would now jump at the chance to work with anyone who was involved again due to their shared experience and called making Noah's death scene "emotionally and mentally, otherworldly".

The Walking Dead's season 10 finale will air as a special episode on Monday, October 5 on FOX in the UK. You can also catch up on the show via NOW TV. In the US, the season 10 finale will air on Sunday, October 4 at 9pm on AMC.
