Buffy The Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon had several actors return throughout the duration of the supernatural drama TV series to play different characters.

Several actors have portrayed multiple different characters on the hit supernatural TV series,Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The show lasted from 1997-2003, and is based on a 1992 movie of the same name. Buffy was created by Joss Whedon under Mutant Enemy Productions and, over the years, it's gained a cult following. Buffy centers on the life of Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar), who is the latest in a line of young women known as Slayers.

Gellar won a Golden Globe for Best Actress for her performance as Buffy Summers, and the series was nominated for various other accolades The show's success sparked a whole franchise, known as the "Buffyverse", which comprises novels, comics, and video games, as well as the spin-off series Angel, which centers on the character Angel (David Boreanaz), who was Buffy's love interest during the original series' first few seasons. Aside from Buffy, main characters in the show include her Watcher, Rupert Giles (Anthony Stewart Head), and her friends Willow (Alyson Hannigan) and Xander (Nicholas Brendon). Supporting characters include Buffy's mother Joyce (Kristine Sutherland) and Buffy's sister Dawn (Michelle Trachtenberg).

Joss Whedon is known for connecting his many different seriesamong them Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.together by including repeating characters across the shows. Additionally, he has some actors from his shows play completely different characters in other shows; for example, Jeff Ricketts played different characters in Buffy, Angel, and Firefly, and Jonathan Woodward played different characters in Buffy and Angeland these are just two of many examples. Looking at Buffy The Vampire Slayer on its own, Whedon did something different; he had actors who played side characters return in later seasons to play totally different characters.

Actor Brian Thompsonwho has played several characters in the Star Trek franchise, among other rolesportrayed different characters in different seasons of Buffy. In 1997, he played Luke in the season 1 episodes "Welcome to Hellmouth" and "The Harvest" The following year, he played "The Judge" in the season two episodes "Surprise" and "Innocence".

Actor Thomas Lenk has become best known for starring as Andrew Wells in both Buffy and the spin-off Angel. In total, he portrayed Andrew in more than 20 episodes in seasons six and seven. Prior to playing Andrew, though, he played the vampire Cyrus in season 5.
