Nina Dobrev may have become famous after playing teenage girl Elena Gilbert onThe Vampire Diaries, but she was always destined to become an actress. She starred on Degrassi with her pal Drakeand has an endearing and charming quality.

Despite starring on such a popular TV show, Nina Dobrev has always felt like a normal person who is very inspiring, whether she's working hard in the gym or talking about her hometown of Toronto. The actress made a very interesting decision when she chose to leaveThe Vampire Diariesafter the sixth season. Why did she make this choice? Why not see the show through to its conclusion? There are a lot of cool things fans can learn about Nina Dobrev. One thing that isn't talked about a lot is why she decided to quit the show that made her famous.

Nina Dobrev left because she was nervous about not being hired for more acting roles. According toRefinery 29, she said,"That was the plan from the get-go. If anything, the fact that [leaving] terrified me drove me even more. I needed to feel that fear of, Oh, my God, what if I never get a job again? That just made me want to work five times as hard to make sure that didn't happen."

Dobrev has also talked about how much she grew up playing Elena Gilbert. She said, "Ive always wanted to take big risks. I started Vampire Diaries when I was 20, and I was playing a young teenage girl. I also played Katherine, this ancient vixen who was manipulative and crazy. Then I grew into myself as a woman I found that part of myself while playing that role I grew with the show and I wanted to continue to grow outside of it," according toElite Daily.

She said that when she quitThe Vampire Diaries, she was 27 years old, and she knew that it was the right time to really go for it and make her acting dreams come true.

She said, "I don't want to play a teenager anymore. I want to play adult roles and be challenged and work with great filmmakers and tell incredible stories, and that has meant being really picky."

Dobrev has definitely played a lot of parts over the years and they have been very far away from Elena Gilbert. In 2009, she played Maria in the thriller movieThe Roommate. She played Vicki in the horror movieThe Final Girlswhich was released in 2015 and Ashley in the 2019 movieRun This Town, which is about Toronto mayor Rob Ford.

In an interview withToronto Life, Nina Dobrev mentioned that she is asked for her I.D. on a regular basis and she thinks that people don't realize how old she is. She explained, Because I started working at such a young age, I grew up faster than some of my peers. I have to keep reminding myself that I look a lot younger than I am."

She continued that her youthful looks are a big thing when she's trying to get cast: she said,"when I meet with directors, they say I still look like a baby. Which is kind of a good thing, and Ive accepted it. Maybe Ill have a longer career because of it.

Sometimes a beloved, major character will leave a few seasons before the show goes off the air andthey don't come back for the finale. It's strange saying goodbye to the show without them and it just doesn't seem right.Thankfully, while she did leave The Vampire Diaries after season six, Nina Dobrev did come back for the series finale, which fans definitely appreciated.

Dobrev said that it was special to be able to play the character again. She said, "I think the show had a satisfying, awesome [end]. For me it was great because I got to go back and be part of the finale and pay homage to characters. I was really happy with it for sure," according toBustle.com.

While it was sad for fans to stop watching Elena Gilbert on their TV screens, at least Nina Dobrev did such a fantastic job playing the character for the many seasons that she did. And the actress has taken on some interesting roles since, proving that leaving was a good idea and she's going after her career dreams.
