‘Vampire’-accused to head back to court next week – Antigua Observer

The man dubbed the Vampire killer for reportedly drinking the blood of his alleged victims will continue to defend himself against the charge of escaping lawful custody on Tuesday.

Alleged serial killer Delano Forbes is said to have evaded police in 2018 by jumping over a cliff before going on the run for almost a month.

When the trial began last week, he told All Saints Magistrates Court that he was in fact handed the keys to his footcuffs by a police officer.

The defendant was reportedly in the custody of Corporal Gred Grell, and other officers, on February 12 2018 and being carried through bushes in Swetes Village, the scene of one of his alleged crimes.

Forbes, represented by lawyer Sherfield Bowen, told the court last Wednesday that Corporal Grell informed him that he was being released due to a lack of evidence.

The officer however refuted the claims saying that Forbes jumped over a high cliff and disappeared. Corporal Grell said the escarpment was too high for him to jump and give chase.

Bowen was to call an additional witness to the stand yesterday but, given that the witness had not yet been formally summoned, the matter was adjourned by Magistrate Ngaio Emmanuel-Edwards.

Forbes is also facing charges for the 2017 killings of Wilfred Bongo Williams, Shawn Henry and Lisue Dirty Williams.

Several weeks after apparently escaping custody in Swetes, he was recaptured in a pump house at Follies on the night of March 9 2018.

He was subsequently charged with the murder of 62-year-old Matthews Village resident, Maurison Thomas.

All four murder matters have been committed to the High Court for trial.
