The supernatural element to this TV show is what madeit so addictive to so many fans and viewers! Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Candice Accola, and Kat Graham are some of the leading actors on the show.

The Vampire Diaries is an easy show to binge watch because so many of the episodes totally leave viewers on the edge of their seats, wanting more! For a while there, The Vampire Diaries was constantly getting compared to the Twilight movie saga. Nowadays, people respect The Vampire Diaries enough to understand that the series stands alone without needing to be compared to anything else. A lot of interesting drama happened behind the scenes of The Vampire Diaries with various members of the cast.

As crazy as it might seem, Nina Dobrev was not always a shoo-in to get the leading role on The Vampire Diaries. Her initial audition for the show apparently wasnt very good at all. She didnt do much to impress the casting directors. Somehow, she was still chosen to play the role of Elena Gilbert.

Paul Wesley is the handsome actor behind the role of Stefan Salvatore. It might come as a surprise and shock to Vampire Diaries fans to find out that he actually directed some of the episodes of the show as well! He wasnt just proving his talent in front of the camera... he proved his talent behind the scenes too.

CandiceAccola and Zach Roerig actually dated each other in real life. She played the role of Caroline Forbes and he played the role of Matt Donovan on the show. It is really cool that the two of them were able to connect while filming and create a romantic relationship with each other away from the cameras.

Ashley Tisdale was thought of for the role of Elena Gilbert! Ashley Tisdale grew to fame during her time on the Disney Channel, specifically on the show Suite Life of Zack &Cody and in the High School Musical movie franchise. It wouldve been cool to see her as Elena Gilbert on TVD.

Paul Wesley and Torrey DeVitto dated in real life as well! It is always interesting to see couples that are able to come together after starring in films and TV shows with one another. It is obviously easy to grow close to someone when you spend that much time with them on set and in front of a camera together.

The characters of Elena Gilbert and Stefan Salvatore were actually supposed to end up with each other originally. The creators of the show decided to make a change as they were working their way through the seasons and this pair did not end up lasting romantically.

Ashlee Simpson was almost chosen to play the role of Elena Gilbert as well! Ashlee Simpson is mostly known for her musical talents but we are sure she couldve handled such a major acting job if she had been placed in the role instead of Nina Dobrev!

Rumor has it that Nina Dobrev decided to quit the show because she was sad about her relationship with Ian Somerhalder coming to an end. He ended up marrying Nikki Reed who he now has a child with. It makes sense that Nina Dobrev didnt want to stay on set with her ex-boyfriend, knowing that he had moved on.

James van der Beek is a handsome actor who almost played the role of Alaric Saltzman. Matthew Davis is the actor who ended up taking on the role and we are just fine with that! Matthew Davis is a super talentedguy who was perfect for the part.The casting directors made a good call.

Some of the female cast of Vampire Diarieswere arrested together for taking pictures in precarious positions. They were posing on the edge of a bridge and putting themselves in a slight bit of danger! They ended up getting arrested for it and, for the most part, they looked completely nonchalant in their mugshots.

Not a lot of fans know that Zach Roerig was facing a custody battle during the time that he was filming Vampire Diaries. He was trying his best to get custody of his child and dealing with the court system while having to memorize lines for the TV show at the same time. It is sad that he had to go through suchtrouble.

Tyler Lockwood was never meant to be a main character on Vampire Diaries! It ended up happening because fans totally fell head over heels for him and thought he was such a cool character to have involved in the show. It is awesome that his small character arc ended up growing to such great levels.

Salvatore is the famousvampiric last name for Damon and Stefan. Not a lot of fans know that their last name was almost Whitmore instead of Salvatore. Salvatore sounds more vampire-esque than Whitmore does so the show creators did a good job making thatdecision.

IanSomerhalder and Paul Wesley simply arent down for a Vampire Diaries reboot. They both vocalized the fact that they feel theyve outgrown their roles on the show and do not care to reprise them. It would be awesome if they were on board to come back for a reboot but its their decision at the end of the day.
