The Vampire Diaries entertained a generation of young adults throughout its eight-year run on The CW, putting the network on the map in a way that no other show had before it. It was a successful run and that made it that much harder to bid farewell to the beloved characters when it came time for the series to end in 2017.

One of those beloved characters was none other than the protagonist herself, Elena Gilbert. Portrayed by Nina Dobrev, Elena dove deep into the supernatural well that lay beneath Mystic Falls, experiencing run-ins with vampire, werewolves, hybrids and originals over the course of the show's run. She also ended up falling for both Salvatore brothers and eventually became a vampire herself.
