Deputies recover stolen property from across the region after residents reported suspicious activity

Law enforcement made two arrests last week in Damascus related to a string of property thefts in the rural community and other places around the region recovering a high-end bicycle, drone, guitar, camping and sporting gear, checks, credit cards and more.

Casey Lee Murphy, 34, of Portland, and Christopher Duane Holverson, 34, of Wilsonville, were both taken into custody without incident Thursday, May 28. The pair face charges of first-degree theft, identity theft and possession of methamphetamine.

The investigation began at 2:30 a.m. when Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a man was prowling the Goosehollow neighborhood in Damascus checking for unlocked cars. The caller also said there appeared to be a vehicle slowly following the suspicious man.

The Goosehollow neighborhood is located near Southeast Eckert Road and Highway 224, and shouldn't be confused with the Goose Hollow neighborhood in Southwest Portland.

Upon arriving in Damascus, a deputy spotted the suspect vehicle driving without headlights. The deputy stopped the car on Highway 212 near Southeast 152nd Avenue in Happy Valley to investigate further.

Deputies discovered what appeared to be several stolen items in the car, and a pair of arrests were made. Law enforcement said one of the individuals also was in possession of another person's identification.

Among the stolen property was a lock pick kit, bolt-cutters and methamphetamine.

Some of the recovered property was returned to residents in Damascus, while other items were linked to property reported stolen out of the city of Hillsboro.

The sheriff's office is seeking additional information related to the case, and the hope is to reunite more vicitms with additional stolen items. Anyone with information, or who believes their property may have been recovered, is asked to contact the sheriff's tip line by calling 503-723-4949 or by going online at https://www.clackamas/us/sheriff/tip.
