SHERIFF’S BEAT: Deputies arrest two for carrying firearms after previous convictions – Tahlequah Daily Press

While performing a traffic stop June 23, Cherokee County Sheriff's Office Deputy Justin Gifford arrested two individuals for illegally carrying firearms after a previous conviction.

Arthur Gillum, 47, Broken Arrow, and Teresa Lee Jones, 42, Tahlequah, were pulled over on State Highway 82 for obstruction of vehicle license plate. Gifford observed small-caliber bullets and a cylinder to a revolver in the back floorboard, where he also discovered a Ruger .22-caliber revolver. Deputy Zach Adams assisted with transporting the two arrestees to the Cherokee County Detention Center, where they were booked. Gillum was also charged with driving a motor vehicle under a revoked license.

Deputies took a domestic violence report June 18 in Tahlequah.

Hershall A. Shannon reported on June 19 that someone had taken his RV and moved it to another residence. Shannon later retrieved his camper but was taken into custody for outstanding warrants. On June 21, Shannon had reported his RV was damaged when it was first taken.

Deputies were called to W.W. Hastings Hospital on June 17 for a domestic violence report.

A utility trailer was reported missing June 20 by Mark W. Powell at his Cookson home.

Yereli Aminta Resendiz reported June 21 that an intruder entered her residence while she was out of town during the month of May. The suspect had taken $100, a spare key and a passport. Her bed and her couch had also been slept on.

Chelsea Laws told deputies on June 22 that her brother, who she had filed a protective order against, entered her house while she was away and changed the locks.

On June 23, deputies took a report of a peeping tom on South Cherokee Drive in Park Hill.

Deputies took a report of a missing juvenile on June 24. The 17-year-old male had been missing for six days when he briefly returned to his Park Hill residence at 4 a.m. and left again. The blond-haired juvenile was last seen wearing a gray shirt, white shorts and a green hat.

On June 23, Darrell G. Jones said several items were taken from his West 825 Road residence while he was out of town. Items taken included a chainsaw, several fishing rods and fishing reels and two flat-screen televisions.

Nicholas Ray Ballard, 24, Tahlequah, was arrested after stealing a 30-pack of Bud Light from Dollar General on June 23. Deputy John Berry transported the suspect to the detention center, where he was charged with larceny, public intoxication, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and bringing contraband into a penal institution.

Christopher Lee Wood, 38, Tahlequah, was arrested by Deputy Andrew Dreadfulwater for discharging firearms in a public place on June 23.

On June 23, Deputies Justin Gifford and Zach Adams arrested Lauren Ashley Crump, 28, Jenks, for public intoxication, and Steven Ray Martin, 31, Eufaula, for driving under the influence, transporting an open container and driving with a suspended license.

Goods Mountain Church reported on June 24 that a thief had taken copper from the building's air conditioning units.

Deputy Bruce Lair arrested Reil Edwin Vanbuskirk, 30, Hulbert, on June 24 for carrying a firearm after previous conviction.

After a traffic stop June 25, Deputy Justin Gifford arrested Kenneth Glen Carrion, 28, Muskogee, for driving under the influence, child endangerment and unauthorized driving left of center; and Shannon Rae Dillon, 28, for public intoxication.
