Its exciting to see the fan base Khoka is enjoying: Anirban – Times of India

Anirban Bhattacharya kicked off 2020 exactly where he left off in 2019 - delivering yet another stunning performance in Srijit Mukherjis Dwitiyo Purush. After playing a passionate journalist in Gumnaami, Anirban again floored everyone with his act as Khoka in Srijits thriller. When we sat down with one of the most sought after actors in Tollywood right now for a candid chat, as audiences applaud his latest big-screen feat, Anirban also seemed overwhelmed to see the response. The elicit audience response Many have said my look was repulsive in the film and thats the kind of response I wanted to elicit from the audience. I wanted Khoka to have a fleshy, oily and repulsive look to portray the ugliness, and it clicked very well with the audience. In fact, it did so well that now Khoka has a dedicated Twitter handle and a huge fanbase on social media with, perhaps, the largest number of memes, said the versatile actor who is equally passionate about directing plays. The character I played in Dwitiyo Purush is completely different from what I am. To play someone like that in a believable manner is quite satisfying. I have received good feedback from the audience too, added Anirban.

The story Dwitiyo Purush, a much-awaited sequel to Baishe Srabon, starts against the backdrop of 1993, Chinatown, Kolkata, when a gang war took place and led to several murders. The police get involved but politics leads to the whole incident being covered up. Twenty-five years later the same thing begins to happen again, identical from the location to the pattern of killing. In this spin-off to Baishe Srabon, Abhijit Prakashi and his assistant Rajat are once again confronted by a baffling mystery.

Sharing more details about how he prepped for such a challenging character like Khoka, Abirban said he didn't have to stress too much.

In Khoka, you wont see any grey zone. He is a completely dark, bloody character, a hardcore villain. I have done six films with Srijitda till now and believe me I have given everything to slip into Khokas character. I even had to gain some weight to play this character. See, I have seen many dark characters in my life and the language you hear from Khoka comes from them. When I had moved to Kolkata for the first time, I used to stay in a place in Koley Market. In those days, it was pretty much rough, said the Tolly star.

Produced by SVF, the film also stars Parambrata Chatterjee, Gaurav Chakrabarty, Raima Sen, Ridhima Ghosh and Rwitibroto Mukherjee among others in pivotal roles.
