Vampire Weekend and Bon Iver Headline Iowa Caucus Concerts in Support of Bernie Sanders – Grit Daily

Vampire Weekend and Bon Iver are teaming up in support of presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.

The Sanders campaign announced two special concerts leading up to the Iowa Democratic Caucuses next month. Bon Iver will perform at the first concert on January 31 in Clive, Iowa, while Vampire Weekend will perform the following day in Cedar Rapids.

The bands are no strangers to Bernie Sanders. Both of them are longtime supporters of the Vermont senator. Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon endorsed Sanders in 2016 and hosted a campaign rally for the senator in his hometown of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Additionally, Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend endorsed Sanders in 2016 and the band performed at several of his rallies.

Vernon opened up about his support for Sanders in a statement about the concert announcement.

There are promises in our constitutional language that are being superseded by money and greed in this country; I believe that Senator Sanders is the only one that has the pedigree, the experience, the courage, and the undying spirit to begin to put these obstacles of freedom to rest.

In addition to the bands, other musicians have shown their support for Sanders 2020 campaign, such as Jack White, Cardi B and Ariana Grande. New Power Generation, longtime band of the late singer Prince, also announced their endorsement of Sanders.

According to CNNs latest poll, Sanders standing in the race for president increased to 27%, passing former Vice President Joe Bidens position at 24%. Following CNNs December poll, Sanders gained seven points and remains favorable among voters.

The Sanders caucus concerts are free to the public on a first come, first serve basis. There will also be a designated VIP section for Sanders campaign volunteers from Iowa. Although the shows are free, Sanders included RSVP links for each show. To RSVP, check out the links below.
