Grand Theft Auto 5 Zombie Mod RottenV Gives GTA An Undead Nightmare – Screen Rant

RottenV, a new fan-made mod for Grand Theft Auto V, brings a zombie apocalypse to Rockstar's popular online RPG, emphasizing co-op to survive.

A zombie mod for Grand Theft Auto 5, titled RottenV, brings an undead nightmare to GTA normally reserved for Rockstars Red Dead Redemption franchise. With the recent alien fad invading Grand Theft Auto Online, GTA has maintained a steady community contributing to its multiplayer mayhem.

However, Undead Nightmare has not seen the light of day in a GTA title. Rockstars famed zombie mode soared to popularity in the first Red Dead Redemption but has not made an official return in the 2018 sequel despite fan anticipation and possible teases. Rockstar responded to Red Dead Redemption 2s Undead Nightmare rumors soon after they circulated the internet, shutting down a lot of the excitement swirling around the potential for zombies in the publisher's currently available titles. As is often the case, fans of the game have taken matters into their own hands in response.

According to PCGamer, a Grand Theft Auto 5 mod titled RottenV brings an undead nightmare to GTA. The mod is housed within Grand Theft Auto 5s community modification FiveM. RottenV is an online server still currently in development, permitting players to transform their online GTA experiences into a zombie apocalypse. Contrary to the normal GTA Online experiences, however, RottenV emphasizes cooperative play as gamers battle for survival against undead hordes.

The mod shares a similarity with battle royale features in that players drop into the undead experience via parachute, and players can utilize safety hubs to gather supplies for their fight against the horrific hordes. Like The Walking Dead, players must aim for the head if they want to strike a killing blow against RottenVs zombies. The mod also includes quests found at the safety hubs, and players can choose to attempt them solo or with a team of other survivalists. Gamers interested in the mod can acquire it on Steam; a legitimate copy of GTA 5 is required to install and play RottenV.

RottenV seems like a passion project that capitalizes on the popularity of Grand Theft Autos mechanics and online elements as well as the fandom surrounding the zombie apocalypse sphere. The mod may be an ongoing project that requires tweaks, additions, and other updates, but it certainly has its place in the gaming community for both GTA and horror fans.
