Rob Zombie is paying tribute to his longtime friend Sid Haig who tragically passed away last year.

On Monday, Zombie shared a touching statement and photograph of Haig while reflecting back on Haigs iconic Captain Spaulding role in the House of 1000 Corpses trilogy.

On Sept. 21, 2019, Haig passed away suddenly at the age of 80 after being admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. Shortly following his death, it was revealed that the 80-year-old died of chronic heart and lung issues.

A cardiorespiratory arrest was the immediate cause of death. TMZ listed respiratory failure, aspiration, aspergillus pheumonia and a small bowel obstruction as contributing causes of death.

Following his passing, Zombie shared many posts about Haig, who starred in House Of 1000 Corpses, The Devils Rejectsand 3 From Hell.

Now, Zombie is further paying tribute to his longtime friend on the one-year anniversary of his death. He took to Facebook on Monday to share a touching statement about Haig.

He shares how thankful he is that Haig was able to play Captain Spaulding one last time in 3 From Hell. Zombie also reveals that Haig was always the first and only Captain Spaulding in his eyes.

Well, today marks one year since my buddy Sid Haig left us, Zombie says. We did a lot of stuff together over the twenty years we were friends. He was my first and only choice for Captain Spaulding back in 1999. As sad as it was, I am so glad he got to play Spaulding one last time even if it was brief. He gave it all he had. That was March 2018.

Zombie further says that he had so much in store with Haig before his passing. Ultimately, he hopes that Haigs legacy is never forgotten within the horror genre.

Obviously we had originally planned to do much more back then but his health made it impossible. I can only hope this role will help him live on for future generations of horror fans.
