Zombie Army 4: Dead War review: gruesomely moreish action – The Telegraph

In the right circumstances, a good title should tell you everything you need to know. And if you are delving into a video game called "Zombie Army 4: Dead War", then subtlety is probably not part of the deal.

And so it is. Oxford-basedRebellions spin-off of its World War II series Sniper Elite has you mowing down Nazi zombies raised from the dead by Hitler himself. In this fourth entry, the undead Fuhrer has been vanquished but his minions still roam, teeming over the remnants of the world. As one of a group of elite Resistance soldiers, it is your job to curtail the creeping deceased by turning them into kibble, popping skulls, removing limbs and snipering them in the testicles. Often in gruesome trademark slo-mo, x-ray vision.

Subtle? Goodness me, no. Brain-dead? Not a bit of it. Make no mistake, Zombie Army 4 is a game about giving the undead a damn good thrashing and little else -except pushing a button or two- but Rebellion has tuned its action smartly enough that it is consistently good fun. Comparisons to Left 4 Dead -Valves co-op zombie thriller par excellence- are a little grand, but Rebellions blaster scratches a similar itch you may have in its absence.
