Wolverine may have a healing factor and metal bones, but when he's turned into a zombie, neither works in his favor. They just make it grosser.

Marvel'sWolverinemay be a simple man, but he's still famous for a few important details: his Adamantium claws, his healing factor, and his hair. But what would happen if the decaying, zombified version of Logan tried to put his powers and claws to the test? Thats exactly what readers found out in excruciatingly gruesome detail in the pages of Marvel Zombies. Andthe answer isreallynot for the squeamish

Book three of five in the inauguralMarvel Zombies run finds the world already overrun by superhero zombies, and food is running out fast. As if things weren't chaotic enough, Silver Surfer, The Herald of Galactus, is circling overhead and what's left of the "heroes" decide he looks like a nice snack. A fierce battle ensues, involving the (zombified) likes of Thor, Moon Knight, Daredevil, Falcon and many more. But it's Wolverine who lunges for the killing blow... leading to one of the series' most disgusting moments.

When making his attack, Zombie Wolverines claws catch on his target's formidable flesh -- but the rest of his body is so rotted away and decomposed, the flesh is literally thrown from his bones, exploding in a green/gray geyser of goo that used to be skin and meat. Nothingbut the skeletal Adamantium forearm is left behind.

Regretting to himself how he wishes his healing factor was strong enough to stave off decomposition, or that his tendons were also made of virtually indestructible metal to hold his bones together, Wolverine decides to lop off what's rest of thenow useless arm because it will, "probably just get in the way."Fans have seen Wolverine's powers and regenerative abilities put to the test time and timeagain, but, generally speaking, the character is alive when he's got his prowess on display. So this was arefreshing look at what his berserker rage might look like with adepowered/deceased version of the character.

The blood and guts don't stop there, with the whole ordeal ending with Hulk biting off the Surfer's head and the rest of the zombies fighting over his corpse. So for any readers interested in seeing how their favorite characters would fare as shambling corpses, Marvel Zombies is the place to look, assuming you've got the stomach for it. And with Marvel's upcoming What if... series, there may even be a chance we get to see them in action.
