Annual ‘Thirller’ zombie dance in the street gives sense of normalcy in 2020 – Statesman Journal

People from all over the world came together to pay tribute to the King of Pop and do the zombie dance from Michael Jacksons Thriller, simultaneously.

The Thrill the World event, which has been taking place since 2006,included groups dancing in Portland, Eugene and Salem.

In the early years, Salems event was organized by Culture Shock Community Project. But since that organization dissolved, Megan Hill has taken the reins.

Hill first saw the group of tattered zombies do the choreographed dance 11 years ago. She was awestruck and decided she wanted to learn the dance and be a part of it.

Hill hopes that seeing the zombies dancing in the street like they do every year brings a sense of normalcy to this highly abnormal world.

It was uncertain if this years event was going to take place with concern over public health, and then with a scheduling conflict that was resolved by a last-minute move to Taproot Lounge and Caf.

A group of about 30 masked-up zombies gathered and run through the dance quickly a couple of times, before doing the dance simultaneously withgroups around the the state and the world.
