[World of Death] February is Scary With "Love and Zombies," "Blow Out" and "My Demon Girlfriend" – Bloody Disgusting

Love is in the scare, and with everything else going on in the world why wouldnt it be frightening? Its no coincidence that February rhymes with scary. At World of Death, we dont want you to tear your hearts out during this month of love so weve got 3 shorts that have a lot of blood, laughs and a little bit of heart just for you.

Love and Zombies from director/writer Brandon Ciarlo has the immediate feel that took this viewer back to the classic Shaun of the Dead. A bickering couple in a zombie apocalypse whose relationship is at war are stuck in a pub behind a bar while zombies eat the flesh of the unlucky patrons that didnt have their wits to make it out. The hits they take at each other are almost as brutal as the ones directed toward the undead. Great chemistry between the two leads sets the tone of this horror-comedy. Sorry, Winchester. If the Zpoc goes down, I want these two with me in my bar!

Blow Out, from writer/actress Michelle Alexander and director Daniel David Stewart, tells the tale about a girl alone in her apartment who hears knocking on her door. When she goes to answer, she is greeted by a big pink, heart-shaped balloon with googly eyes floating in the hallway. She brings it in and that is when the fun begins Turning the word fun into something truly frightening, Blow Out will do for balloons what the Friday the 13th films did for hockey masks.

My Demon Girlfriend, starring, written and directed by Jonathan Cook, is a doc-style short regarding a guy named Gary who submits himself and his girlfriend to be on a reality show for couples. Surprise, his girlfriend is a demon! While I will not be going out for drinks with the girlfriend, I may have to look up her Etsy shop, Bloodbath and Beyond.

Love is a frightening thing, so my advice is a line from the quintessential 90s film Singles, Have fun. Stay single. Eat your hearts out kids.
